ART NOUVEAU

Divan Japonais, Lautrec, Lithographic Poster, 1893

This poster is relevant to the Art Nouveau style based on its focus on natural forms and curves. This poster is much different than others featuring geometric shapes and harsh lines. Instead, the typography flows well and appears almost hand-drawn. This example is different than previous as the color palette is far less complex, with a heavy emphasis on black. In fact, the contrast of colors between the yellow tones and black makes this poster stand out. This poster is important to me as it acts as an advertisement for a cabaret reopening. With my study in graphic design, I've worked a lot with advertising, so it's very interesting to see how advertising methods differed in the late 1800s.
